The Consular-General of Nigerian High Commission in Johannesburg, Mr Godwin Adama, has petitioned the South African authorities following an attack by two South African policemen on a former Big Brother Africa housemate, Mr Tayo Faniran.

The Nigerian Mission is pressing for a case against the brutality of the policemen who were seen in a viral video forcefully putting handcuffs on their victim.

The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa said in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, the agency in South Africa which deals with cases involving police officers, has commenced work on the petition.

She stated, “Our Consular-General has also met with Faniran, who was the latest victim of South Africa policemen’s attack on Nigerians.

“Eight South African policemen are on trial for their involvement in maltreatment of Nigerians in the country. We will continue to follow up on this case and others involving attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.”

Big Brother Africa season nine star, Tayo Faniran, made a live Instagram video to capture his altercation with some policemen in South Africa.

In the short clip making the rounds on social media, the reality star was reportedly stopped by a policeman and eventually told to step into their van and follow them to the station.

Tayo resisted the officer’s attempt to arrest him as he expressed concern that the police van was unmarked and that he would follow them to the station only if they ride with him in his own car.

The policeman maintained his calm as he called for backup. The backup officers arrived and forcefully bundled Tayo into their vehicle as one of them even held his neck tightly.

Just recently, Tayo Faniran slammed South African rapper, AKA, for his reaction to his country’s loss to Nigeria during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

AKA was not too happy with South Africa losing the match to Nigeria as he lamented about how they always lose them. The rapper also added that he would have preferred if his country lost to Egypt instead.

The rapper, who was obviously hurt by the loss of the Bafana Bafana, made bold statements that people claimed were to incite and support xenophobia.

Faniran called out the rapper and demanded that he tenders an apology to Nigerians as football should be a game of unity and not of division.
