The residents of Coker Community, Orimolade in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government has decried the incessant invasion of her community by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), an arm of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Members of the community said the act of the squad is nothing different from that of terrorists and rogues, as it is now a habit for them to invade the environs with no definite mission aside from extorting the peace loving members in the neighbourhood.
People & Politics gathered that the community was raided on Friday, and no fewer than eight men were whisked away by these police body, with unfounded accusations.
In a chat with People & Politics, a resident of Coker Community, Mr. Tunde Ayansola said the police body is fast making that community unsafe for them as they can no longer walk freely for the fear of SARS invasion.
“The absurd thing is that we can no longer walk freely on our streets because SARS can show up at anytime as always. We are now living with fear in our own community. It seems they now come around when they are in need, an act comparable to that of rogues and terrorists.
“Nobody is saying they shouldn’t do their job, but I don’t think it is part of their job to come for innocent people and extort them. And if care is not taking they will take this to an unbearable level. We’ve seen what they’ve done to people, most especially Nigerian youths in some areas. And we won’t wait till they kill anybody here before we raise our voice.
“We are law abiding citizens and we should be treated accordingly. If they have any target or information they are working on, I think they should go straight to carry out their duties and stop harassing and extorting us.
In a visit to the area, one Mr. Okey who was a victim of their invasion said “We were sitting here in front of my shop, and suddenly, they came, claiming that we are 419. They took all of us to Olowosokedile Police Station, on Iju Road, the same thing they did sometimes back and this is getting out of hand. We are appealing to the government and police authority to please come to our aid and save us from this incessant harassment.”
