The Ag President, Association of Tutorial School Operators (ATSO), Shodunke Oludotun Michael, has said ATSO would divert Nigerians attention from Big Brother Nigeria and all forms of nudity being promoted on national television to education.
Shodunke disclosed this in an interview with People & Politics, during the conduct of election for the Lagos State Chapter of ATSO.
He said ATSO would achieve this through a programme called Most Brilliant Student Contest, where any student that scores the highest mark in an academic competition will be given scholarship and a brand new car.
Shodunke described ATSO as a body with zero tolerance for examination malpractices and not miracle or special centres as people tend to synonymize it. “We are not what people say we are, and we have been sensitizing the general public about that. Our watchword is integrity with the aim of breeding brilliant students with high level of integrity and decency. And that is why we are shifting the attention of our youths to the Most Brilliant Student Contest.
“It is a national programme. We have held it twice so far, one in 2014 and 2020. It is supposed to be a yearly programme. I designed the programme, introduced it to the association and it is self sponsored by ATSO. So, we are diverting the attention from Big Brother Nigeria and all forms of nudity. We want our youths to know that you can actually be brilliant and become a star.
“Last year winner just gained admission to Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) to study law. And he will be taking his vehicle there, probably when he’s 18. That is one of the programmes we introduced to tell the world that ATSO is not practicing examination malpractices.
“We are going to expand the programme just like BBN, we will put them in a house, it is not going to be a one day thing. Teachers will be teaching them and people will be voting for them, and they will be seeing how they are improving, while there will also be judges. We are already talking to a couple of companies for sponsorship”.
On ATSO election, he advised the elected governor to take up his own style of leadership as his mentee. He said he expects him to be hardworking, determined, articulate, and to expand the association and uphold its motto.”Let’s have ATSO Estate, let’s have ATSO Cooperative, let’s move forward the job that has made us, let’s not leave it the way we met it”, he said.
