The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are through to the round of sixteen of the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup, after beating Ecuador 3-2 at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico in Goiania.
Ibrahim Said scored a hat-trick in a pulsating match to see Nigeria through, recording a dramatic comeback in the process.
Said scored his first goal in the 5th minute, while Daniel Jinadu gave the Ecuadorian an equalizer through an own goal.
Meanwhile in the 56th minute, the referee awarded a penalty against the Nigerian side after consulting with the Video Assistant referee (VAR). The penalty was converted and that put Ecuador ahead.
Unrelenting Said however scored the other two goals that qualify the Nigerian side to the next stage in the 84th and 89th minutes respectively.
Nigeria now top Group ‘B’ with six points, followed by Ecuador – with three points, whereas Australia and Hungary have recorded no points.
