Pupils of two schools in Gombe State were seen attending classes in less than a conducive environment on Wednesday.

In one of the primary schools, Farin Kasa Primary School in Shoghom Local Government Area, the pupils, wearing green uniform, were seen in their classrooms sitting on stones.

The classroom was devoid of any furniture.

Another set of the pupils were seen under a tree being taught by a female teacher.

A signpost close to the school revealed that a UBEC/SUBEB contract had been approved for the construction of two classrooms for the school, complete with store and office.

The contract was awarded to B.O. & J.A. Ventures Ltd and supervised by Pahylcon Ltd.

In another school, also in Shoghom LG, Tidi Primary School, Burak, pupils were seen attending classes in a makeshift classroom under a tree.

It may be recalled that the administration of then Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo had pitched the Gombe State’s 2019 budget as a “Budget of posterity.”

Out of the N122.5bn budget proposed by the Dankwambo administration and approved by the state Assembly in April — a month to the end of his tenure in May 2019 — N8bn was earmarked for the Ministry of Education.

Again, N6bn was earmarked for SUBEB/Universal Basic Education, which oversees primary school education.

The state also targeted another N1.5bn from donors, according to the document on the budget as uploaded by the Gombe State Ministry of Finance.

So far, Gombe children have not felt the impact of the budgetary allocations as they currently learn in atmosphere that is not conducive for learning.
