The Super Eagles of Nigeria managed to secure the third place in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), courtesy of an early goal from the Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua and Nigerian striker, Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo scored the only goal in the third minute of the match, capitalizing on a defensive blunder of the Tunisian side at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo.

The current highest goal scorer in the ongoing competition was however taken out of the game in the final minute of the first half, after suffering from a hamstring injury.

Efforts to increase the tally by Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu who came in in the 90th minute were aborted by the Tunisian goalkeeper, Ben Cherifia.

This is the eight time Nigeria will win the third place, having won in 1976, 1978, 1992, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2019.
